Hello again,
After a long break, the Vinyl Land – Rock 45’s! Podcast is back with a vengence!
This time around I have a selection of 7” singles full of beats, b-sides, promos, remixes and 8bit sounds for you listening pleasure.
I think this mix came about when I started noticing that most of the club nights that I was attending or djing here in London would steer to a more “eletronic” direction towards the later hours, even in the indie venues. So here is my take on that, even tought I dont think this mix is necesserily dancefloor oriented at all. Anyways...
We start things off quite slow with the beautifull “Shiller” form New York duo Ratatat, and from there the pace picks up gradualy. Highlights are the promo only “Machine Gun” by Portishead; the clash between Crystal Castles and Health on “Crimewave”; the 100 copies limited edition picture disc of Plastic Little (with very funny “Mister T / E.T.” cover); the japonese version of “Pocket Calculator” by Kraftwerk and the Alex Gopher Remix of Ladyhawke’s “Paris is Burning”.
Check out the full track list:
1 – Ratatat – Shiller (XL Recordings)
2 – Daft Punk – Aerodynamic (Virgin Italy Promo)
3 – Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill (XL Recordings)
4 – Portishead – Machine Gun (Mercury Records)
5 – Crystal Castles vs Health – Crimewave (Trouble Records)
6 – Tiny Masters of Today – Hey, Mr. DJ (CSS Remix) (Mute Records)
7 - MIA – Paper Planes (DFA Remix) (XL Recordings)
8 - Toddla T ft Serocee – Manabadman (1965 Records)
9 – Plastic Little – Boys Remix (Rotflol) (Make Mine)
10 – Kraftwerk – Dentaku (EMI Records)
11 - Hot Chip – Ready for the Floor (Radio Edit) (EMI Records)
12 – Ladyhawke – Paris is Burning (Alex Gopher Remix) (Modular Recordings)
13 – Data Rock – Fa Fa Fa (Young Aspiring Professionals)
14 – Architecture in Helsinki – Hold Music (Cooperative Music)
15 – CSS – Move (Cut Copy Remix)
As usual go to www.myspace.com/vinylland if you want to check out the artwork on the records and sleeves or drop me a message with your thoughts on this mix.
Until next time,
Luiz

Dear Rock Fellas,
After a short break, the Rock 45s podcast is back with a new epicsode. This week, celebrating their upcoming gig in Victoria Park this tuesday, I am going to open and close the set with Radiohead, first with their single “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” from the “In Rainbows” album and later with “Paranoid Android” from “Ok Computer”.
Then there will be the usual mix of classics like The Jesus and the Mary Chain with “Cracking Up”, The Modern Lovers with “Astral Plane” and Pavement with “Cut You Hair”; and some more recent stuff like Polytechnic, Land of Talk and Of Montreal.
And theres is the live version of “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” by Arcade Fire with David Byrne singing.
As the story goes, the band used to cover this Talking Heads song in their shows, so when they were in New York to play the Irving Plaza in 2005, David Byrne got in touch by email with the band and they invited him to play. The audio is not that great, since its from a camera that one of the band members used to film it, but its worth it just for the little moment in rock history. Check out the video and see how happy they look! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u50KlJxCWpg&feature=related).
Here is the full listing of songs in this set:
1 – Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling Into Place (XL Records)
2 – Polytechnic - Let Me Down (Transgressive) – B Side
3 - Bombay Bicycle Club – How Are You (Mmm... Records)
4 – Land Of Talk – Speack To Me Bones (One Little Indian)
5 – The Jesus and Mary Chain – Cracking Up (Creation Records)
6 – Pavement – Cut Your Hair (Big Cat)
7 – The Shins – Austrália (Transgressive)
8 – The Modern Lovers – Astral Plane (Live) (Beserkly)
9 – Árcade Fire feat David Byrne – This Must Be The Place (Live) (Rough Trade) – B Side
10 – Belle and Sebastian – Step Into My Office, Baby (Rough Trade)
11 – We Are Scientists – No Body Move Nobody Gets Hurt (Virgin)
12 – Of Montreal – She’s A Rejecter (Polyvinyl)
13 – Super Furry Animals – Northern Lites (Creation Records)
14 – Beck – New Pollution (Geffen)
15 – Radiohead – Paranoid Android (Parlophone/EMI)
This week you can also catch me playing some more Rock 45s in 2 dates in London, at the Barfly in Camden on Friday 27/06 and at Monton @ Water Rats in kIngs Cross on Saturday 28/06 (Big shout-out to Dj Milla www.myspace.com/camand for hooking me up!).
